SMTP stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. It is the protocol that allows you to send email to mail server. SMTP is specifically used to send email from an email client to your email provider’s mail server. It comes in handy when your web server has various restrictions on outgoing email.
Web hosting provider such as GoDaddy supports SMTP. If you are having an issue where your site hosted on GoDaddy is unable to send email from WordPress, you can follow this tutorial to configure GoDaddy specific SMTP settings. This will allow your site to connect to the GoDaddy SMTP server and send email from their server to the recipient.
